IMPORTANCE OF RAMADAN IN ISLAM

Ramadan is one of the holiest months in Islam, observed by Muslims worldwide as a time of fasting, prayer, reflection, and spiritual growth. It is during this month that the Qur’an was first revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), making it a period of immense significance. Fasting from dawn to sunset, known as Sawm, is a core practice during Ramadan, teaching self-discipline, empathy for the less fortunate, and a heightened awareness of one’s faith. Muslims engage in increased acts of worship, including reading the Qur’an, performing additional prayers like Taraweeh, and giving to charity (Zakat and Sadaqah). Ramadan strengthens the bonds of community, encourages self-purification, and brings believers closer to Allah through sincere devotion and supplication. The month culminates in Eid al-Fitr, a joyous celebration marking the successful completion of fasting and spiritual renewal.
